At their monthly meeting on Thursday, December 17, the members present of the Anacortes Fire Fighters local voted unanimously to donate $1000 to the effort to repair the Tommy Thompson Trestle.
The trestle, part of the popular Tommy Thompson Trail, sustained serious damage during a mid-day fire on October 15. The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious, and continues to be under investigation.
Refurbished in 2005 by the City of Anacortes, the trestle is a widely used path for pedestrians and cyclists. In the wake of the fire, the Anacortes Parks Foundation has established a fund for repair costs.
Local 1537 is proud to support the effort to restore this public treasure.
