On Saturday, March 7, 2009 a fellow Fidalgo Island Firefighter Terry Bowen’s life was cut short after a courageous battle with leukemia. One year to the date, On Sunday, March 7, 2010, a team of Fidalgo Island firefighters participating in the Scott Firefighter Stair Climb will race up the stairs of the Columbia Center Tower in full fire gear and SCBA in memory of Bowen, a long-time firefighter with Mt. At their monthly meeting on Thursday, December 17, the members present of the Anacortes Fire Fighters local voted unanimously to donate $1000 to the effort to repair the Tommy Thompson Trestle.

The trestle, part of the popular Tommy Thompson Trail, sustained serious damage during a mid-day fire on October 15.  The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious, and continues to be under investigation.  Read more »
